Introduction

Bo, nearly illiterate, born of fisherman's stock, Hong Kong’s oldest industry, joins the most prestigious British corporation of its day. He manages to take over its operations by the time he is 50.

Synopsis

In the early 1990s, Bo attracts great attention as CEO of a British Company, his prominence overshadowing even that of his superiors. 20 years before, when he joins the firm, his goal is only to read and write. His rise to prominence has as much to do with the imminent return of Hong Kong to China as it has to do with his considerable ability. He has to endure much jeering as he looks nothing like a native-born Chinese. When he was a youth, his father died and his mother incurred many debts, forcing Bo and his mother struggling relentlessly to earn their living.
