From classics that have association with Nihombashi to new documentaries that look at various ways of “being Japanese”, Kaneto Shindo’s masterpiece that pursues the image of the Japanese, and the recent much-talked about hit film that looks at the way one Japanese person ended his life, will be screened over three days. Introduction

Kasumigaseki Building (1968) was the first structure in Japan built higher than 100 meters. This film is about Kaku Morin, an architect born in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial rule.

Atsuko Sakai

Born 1969 in Yamaguchi, Japan. Upon graduating from college worked in marketing and journalism. Her Interviews in Taiwan began as she moved onto the film industry in 2000. Directed first film Taiwan Jinsei in 2009, and a publication of the same title was released in 2010. With a keen interest in Taiwan, she is currently making her third film.
